The AUTOSUP project was actively represented at IPIC 2026, contributing to several sessions focused on the future of the Physical Internet, logistics automation and the digital transformation of multimodal freight transport. The conference provided an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge with researchers, industry stakeholders and European innovation projects working towards more connected, resilient and efficient logistics networks.
A key contribution came from INLECOM, represented by Ilias Gkotsis, who presented the paper “Implementing the Physical Internet in Multimodal Hubs: The AUTOSUP Digital Twin-Based Decision-Support Approach.” The presentation highlighted how Information Flow Modelling, Knowledge Graphs, Digital Twins and Decision Support Systems can support multimodal logistics hubs in evaluating automation pathways and progressing towards Physical Internet-compatible operations.
AUTOSUP also participated in the panel discussion “Automation in Logistics: Where We Stand – Evidence from Horizon Europe Projects Towards End-to-End Adoption.” Together with representatives from the AutoMoTIF and SEAMLESS projects, the discussion explored current challenges and opportunities related to interoperability, multimodal orchestration, scalability, governance and the adoption of automation solutions across logistics networks.
In addition, AUTOSUP contributed to the broader Physical Internet debate through a panel session organised by the PILOTS project. Moderated by Dirk Staelens (VIL), the discussion focused on the role of data spaces, interoperability frameworks and collaborative innovation in accelerating the implementation of Physical Internet concepts across Europe. A live demonstration of a fully automated container weighing process at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges provided a practical illustration of how data sharing between stakeholders is essential for enabling automated and autonomous container operations in complex logistics environments.
The event sparked valuable discussions on the future of logistics automation and underscored the importance of collaboration across projects, industries, and regions. AUTOSUP thanks the organisers, speakers, and participants for the inspiring discussions and looks forward to continuing these collaborations through ALICE and the wider Physical Internet community.
