On December 10th, the second AUTOSUP workshop took place at the prestigious MIB Trieste School of Management. Local and European stakeholders came together to explore logistics automation challenges, focusing on technology integration and interoperability to reduce bottlenecks and foster seamless coordination across the supply chain.

Workshop Highlights:

🔹 We unveiled our first Project Milestone : The Classification of Logistics Automation Technologies, a structured framework to tackle industry challenges and uncover automation opportunities.

🔹 Adriafer presented its innovative pilot for automated railcar maintenance management at the Port of Trieste, addressing the critical issue of limited track availability. The pilot aims that railcars requiring maintenance are routed to hinterland terminals instead of occupying valuable space within the port, thereby optimizing the use of space and providing better access to repair facilities.

🔹 Gruber Logistics shared its experiences with cross-border supply chain challenges between Germany, Italy, and Turkey, highlighting critical issues like customs data exchanges, real-time vessel tracking, and RORO loading operations. To address these complexities, they emphasized the need for a robust Decision Support System capable of real-time optimization. Such a system would streamline operations, enhance supply chain efficiency, and tackle persistent interoperability issues across borders and systems.

Key Discussions:

  • Addressing data management and interoperability issues.
  • Innovations in terminal operations, with Interporto Padova S.P.A. showcasing its in-house software and automation solutions
  • Examining automation’s role in tackling workforce shortages.

A heartfelt thanks to all the participants and the presenters for their insights and contributions and to our hosts ADRIAFER and ALICE. Together, we’re shaping a smarter and automated logistics future!
